Fillers & Botox
Injectable Treatments
Fillers and Botox are different yet similar injectable treatments that can restore lost volume to the face, revitalize your appearance, create more youthful-looking skin, and smooth out wrinkles and lines. Get long-lasting rejuvenation with filler and Botox treatments from The New York Oral Surgery Group.
Fillers
Injectable dermal fillers are a very popular form of minimally-invasive cosmetic treatment, providing temporary or semi-permanent results. Using fillers of different chemical makeup and firmness, our doctors can reduce facial lines and restore lost volume to different areas of the face. Due to the wide variety of fillers available for different procedures, we can help you find the right choice for you during a consultation with one of our doctors.
Side Effects
The most common side effects associated with fillers are redness, swelling, bruising, pain, itching, and mild rash symptoms. These side effects typically occur following treatment and clear up within 7 to 14 days. Less common side effects include infection, filler leakage or movement, nodules, blood vessel injury, and blocked blood flow leading to tissue death and blindness.
Botox
Botox® Injections can reduce the signs of aging by reducing the muscle activity and wrinkles of the eyebrow and forehead. It is especially effective in reducing frown lines.
Over time, skin becomes less elastic; repeated frowning creates lines and wrinkles between the brows (also known as glabellar lines). BOTOX® Cosmetic is the only FDA-approved prescription treatment for moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people ages 18 to 65.
BOTOX® can also be used for therapeutic and rehabilitative applications, such as a muscle relaxant to relieve pain associated with chronic clenching and grinding habits, often seen in patients with TMJ disorders.
How does Botox work?
BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified protein that smoothes the muscles by blocking nerve impulses. With a few tiny injections, BOTOX® Cosmetic blocks the release of acetylcholine, the chemical that causes muscles to contract. With less movement, the skin surface gradually smoothes out and the lines begin to fade.
Botox Procedure
The BOTOX® Cosmetic procedure consists of a few tiny injections and takes only a few minutes to accomplish. In most cases, no anesthesia is required; however, we may numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream prior to the injections. There may be minimal and brief discomfort, along with slight temporary bruising at the injection sites, which can easily be covered up with make-up. Most patients can resume their normal daily activities immediately.
