Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) Surgery

Obstructive Sleep Apnea Surgery

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a disorder that causes abnormal breathing while sleeping, causing you to periodically stop and start breathing while asleep. This potentially serious issue can be treated through surgeries performed by an oral and maxillofacial specialist at The New York Oral Surgery Group. These treatments are performed to expand the upper airway and increase airflow through the nose.

We can conduct maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) surgery and maxillomandibular expansion (MME) surgery to treat OSA patients.

What is MMA surgery?

During MMA surgery, the jaws and airway soft tissues are advanced in order to significantly expand the airway. This complex procedure may be successful in treating individuals with moderate to severe OSA.

What is MME surgery?

MME surgery is a procedure that requires both surgery and orthodontic treatment to expand the upper airway and improve breathing. This involves widening the upper and lower jaw to make additional room for the tongue.
